Wiki Tricks

  1. Wiki Tricks
    1. Help Out in this Wiki
    2. Convert Existing HTML Pages
    3. Vim Users

For a general Wiki "howto", have a look at the HelpContents, especially the pages referenced in HelpOnEditing.

Now, if you like to edit the pages in your favorite editor, without the limitations of most web browsers' text areas, use w3m as your browser (which is my favorite way; but not everybody likes text based browsers...). Or you can use editmoin, a configurable python wrapper, which I will continue to improve a little bit (original homepage:

Help Out in this Wiki

Convert Existing HTML Pages

  • is a simple perl script to help moving existing HTML pages into the Wiki "Content Management System". It converts most of typical HTML markup into useable Moin-style Wiki-Markup. You will still need to make some adjustments, of course.

Vim Users

  • wiki-moin.vim is good for improved syntax highlighting in my favorite editor, Vim. Use it like this:

      mkdir -p ~/.vim/syntax
      cp wiki-moin.vim ~/.vim/syntax
      cat >> ~/.vim/filetype.vim << __EOF__
      augroup filetypedetect
      au BufNewFile,BufRead *.wiki-moin,*.moin,*/Wiki/* setf wiki-moin
      augroup END
    Other recommended settings:
      mkdir -p ~/.vim/indent
      cat >> ~/.vim/indent/wiki-moin.vim << __EOF__
      " Only load this indent file when no other was loaded.
      if exists("b:did_indent")
      let b:did_indent = 1
      setlocal nolisp " Make sure lisp indenting doesn't supersede us
      setlocal autoindent
      setlocal formatoptions=tcq
      setlocal textwidth=0 wrapmargin=0
      setlocal wrap linebreak showbreak=>\

      nmap <Up> gk
