Heartbeat Version 2

The Heartbeat[1] program has been around for a while. It has a great many strengths, and yet there were a few weaknesses in version 1 that needed to be addressed:

The version 2 series of Heartbeat[1] removes these limitations while preserving as many of version 1's strengths as possible.
